Welcome to the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program at Boston University! Our innovative program is designed to provide undergraduate students with a unique and immersive research experience. The research fields explored through SURE span genetic circuits, cellular engineering, synthetic epigenetics, experimental evolution, immunotherapy, systems biology, stem cell engineering, regenerative medicine, optogenetics and neural control, antibiotic resistance, drug/gene delivery, and microbial communities. Research Mentorship:
At the heart of SURE is the opportunity to work closely with experienced research mentors who are experts in their fields. Participants will be carefully paired with mentors based on their academic interests and career goals. This personalized mentorship ensures a meaningful and impactful research experience, allowing students to contribute to ongoing projects or embark on their own independent research.

Lab Tours and Engineering Skills Development:
Immerse yourself in cutting-edge research by touring state-of-the-art engineering skills labs at Boston University. Gain hands-on experience and develop practical skills under the guidance of experienced professionals. You will have the opportunity to visit Boston University's one of its kind, Bioengineering Technology & Entrepreneurship Center (BTEC), a 5,000 square foot bioengineering maker space designed to transform education and innovation for bioengineering students through hands-on learning. The center advances cutting-edge technologies identified in partnership with industry, from gene editing to biosensors to digital medicine.

Professional Development Training:
Preparing for a successful career in research requires more than technical skills. SURE offers professional development training sessions to enhance essential skills such as communication, project management, and presentation abilities. These sessions are facilitated by experts in academia and industry to equip participants with the tools needed to excel in their future endeavors.

Research Seminars:
Expand your horizons by attending research seminars led by faculty members from various departments across campus. These sessions expose participants to a wide range of research topics, fostering a multidisciplinary perspective. We will also visit one of Boston's incubator spaces, which is a laboratory space designed as a launchpad for high-potential life-sciences and biotech startups.
